The New Hope of Children’s Association (NHCA) is based in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and was registered as an official NGO in Cambodia in May 2013.
We operate a Free School in Roka village, 12km from town, located in Krobi Riel Commune, Siem Reap.
Our Free School functions as a supplementary school to the public school system for the majority of the children. Some students however, come from families who cannot afford the monthly fees for public schools and our free school may be their only option for an education.
The New Hope of Children Association’s school was first established in 2009 by Mr. Prosh Seam, who wanted to give some of Siem Reap’s poorest children a future by offering free education and advice. Within just four years, NHCA has evolved from three small classrooms at Mr.Prosh’s house to a colourful multi-classroom school with more than 250 students who enjoy learning and playing there.
This achievement was only possible with the help of numerous volunteers and supporters worldwide. Our current school opened in August 2013 and offers free English classes, computer classes and other courses to children and young adults. Regular teacher training and our international volunteer program constantly improve the quality of the education provided.
Cambodia is still recovering from more than three decades of war in which an estimated 1.7 million people were killed or died from forced hardships under the Khmer Rouge. Poverty levels are high and child malnutrition, youth unemployment and human trafficking are major concerns.
Our villages are in great need of help with many single parents and grandparents raising children. In our village area there are 650 families, 6883 people and of these there are 3687 children under the age of 18 that need educating.
In order for this school to be built and for our future projects to be completed, a team of highly dedicated people are fund raising in many ways. We need as much help as we can get so that we can give underprivileged children and the families of the commune as much help as they need. Help us help them!
